For many years fishery managers, river keepers and riparian owners on chalk streams have been helping to improve the spawning areas of salmon and sea trout. Gravel washing involves the use of high pressure jetting equipment to loosen compacted and silted substrate. This process creates a clean river bed that encourages fish to dig their nests, or ‘redds’ as they are known, and spawn into the clean gravel.

The clean gravel maximises the amount of oxygen reaching the eggs and encourages healthy development of the embryos. Kingcombe Aquacare offer this service to our clients, so if your beat requires some TLC, do not hesitate to call.
