30th Anniversary Celebrations

A great time was had by all when the Kingcombe Team came together on the weekend to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the company. A family BBQ was held on the Saturday afternoon at Cann Farm, John and Theresa Colton’s home, accompanied by a water slide, paddling pools, football goals and the biggest bubble maker known to man! In the evening over 90 of our clients, suppliers and staff sat down to a four course meal, including a duck breast starter and a crayfish and water buffalo main course. Washed down with some great wine, followed up by fabulous music and entertainment courtesy of the band Area 52, it proved to be a barnstormer of an evening and an appropriate way for us to thanks to those present for all their support over those 30 years.

However, that thanks spreads beyond the sore heads, hoarse voices and weary limbs of the revellers on that evening. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to all of our clients who have placed their faith in Kingcombe over the years, many of whom have become firm friends in the process. We also need to remember our suppliers, be they a one man band or a large national company. Our supply chain is critical to the success of our performance on site, without their diligence and reliable service it would be impossible to achieve the quality goals that we set ourselves. The Kingcombe Team is a very broad kirk, and we welcome this opportunity to extend our thanks to all those who have helped us to achieve this notable milestone.

Whilst it is tempting at a moment like this to dwell on the achievements of the past, I am excited to say that the heady mix of youth and maturity, male and female, innovation and experience, that now makes up the Kingcombe Team, prepares us so well for the challenges that lie ahead. Coming straight off the back of being involved in the building of water features on no less than four – yes, four – Gold Medal winning gardens at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show last month (http://kingcombe.com/2017/05/chelsea-flower-show-success/), our 30th Celebration was not so much a recognition of our achievements in the past, more a statement of intent for what we hope to achieve in the future.

Here’s to the next 30 years!

1987-2017

Happy New Year to all of our clients, staff and suppliers at the start of 2017, which is our 30th anniversary year of service to the environment.

Without your support we would never have achieved all that we have done over those 30 years. As we reach this significant milestone, it is wholly appropriate that we should take time out to thank you all for your individual contributions, in so many ways, to our success.hrh

First of all to our suppliers. Despite the modern world demanding that our commercial relationships have to be wrapped up in ever increasing contractual paperwork, those relationships still remain founded on a bond of mutual trust and respect. You have worked hard over the years to provide us with the resources to do our work, for which you can rightly expect to be paid in a timely fashion. We hope that we have always achieved that. Those old fashioned values have remained at the core of our business, helping us to survive some pretty turbulent economic conditions over the years.

Then to our staff. One of the greatest joys has been to see how many of our staff have grown up within the business, developing their skills and experience in the process. Only this week we celebrated another member of staff reaching his 20th anniversary with the company. It is impossible to place a value on the knowledge accumulated over those years, but for certain it ensures we can offer our clients a healthy mixture of mature experience and youthful enthusiasm to overcome the challenges with which they present us. We are only as good as the staff that we employ, and we thank them all for their loyalty, their hard work and their good humour over the years.

And finally, and most importantly, to our clients. Without you, there would be no business. You have continued to present us with new and exciting challenges, which I hope that we have always strived to overcome. One of our proudest moments was to be awarded the Environment Agency’s Project Excellence Award in 2013, for the innovative design and installation of a simple eel pass. In the absence of any external power source, this relies upon miniature ram pumps to provide a suitable flow of water for the elvers to swim up. Working in close collaboration with our clients in this way is so rewarding, especially if the environment is the beneficiary of our mutual efforts.

It is a particular source of reassurance to me that over 70% of our orders come from our existing client base. Many of our regular maintenance contracts extend back well over a decade or more, demonstrating the faith that you have in our staff and the quality of the work that we do. Working in the demanding water environment, we cannot claim that everything goes according to plan every time, but our ethos is always to go that extra mile if necessary to get it right in the end.
